The diet delusion

I've been doing intuitive eating for just over two years now and have come a long way but the lure of diets, that quick-fix weight loss promise is still there. I fight it kicking and screaming but evenso the lure of dieting is still there. Diets don't work, I know that. Diets fail 95% of people who end up even bigger than before they started dieting. Dieting is an external influence telling you what you can and can't eat, irrespective of individual tastes and without listening to the body's natural hunger/fullness/satisfaction/pleasure signals. I know all of this. I hate diets and I hate the press who shove photos of malnourished and airbrushed celebrities in our faces every day making us feel inferior and not good enough, fat and ugly, when in fact these are unreal images of unhappy women pressurised to starve to stay in the industry. Intuitive eating is freedom for life. A chance to eat when I am hungry, to get pleasure, satisfaction and enjoyment from food, to eat variety and whatever I fancy, to eat healthy food, play food, to be able to dine out without worrying, choose whatever I want off the menu, to be happy, laugh and enjoy life. There is no hidden flaw with intuitive eating. It is the key to freedom and happiness for life.

My birthday at the Pump Room in Bath

New blog new start

I've decided to start blogging again to help me with my intuitive eating journey. I cannot believe it has been over two years ago now since I first discovered Beyond Chocolate and decided to give up dieting. I must admit that the urge to diet has never gone away but that being said, I haven't actually dieted! Initially after reading Beyond Chocolate I sometimes dieted for a day or half a day before giving up, and now I couldn't even manage a meal!! I've come a long way and a lot further than I often give myself credit for! My favourite intuitive eating books and CD's are all of the above and they have all been hugely beneficial to me!!
